Filter Step normalizeXml

Description

Normalizes XML content.

Parameters

description
Required? no
The description of this test step.

Details

This filter returns a pretty-printed version of an XML file. More technically, it calls the normalize() method on the root DOM Node (see standard Java javadocs related to this if you are curious) and then serializes the resultant Node tree using an output formatter. This can be useful when testing e.g. Web Services which often compress whitespace of the output.

As an example, for the following XML input file:

normalizeXml input
<xml><body style='123'>
</body></xml>

The normalized output would be:

normalizeXml output
<?xml version="1.0encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xml>
    <body style="123"/>
</xml>

See also the verifyContent step for an example illustrating the use of content filters.
